Grow II

Your Gifts Can Have a GREATER Impact in Our Community!

The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation (GMCF) has received a $600,000 matching grant from the Kansas Health Foundation's Giving Resources to our World Chapter Two (GROW II) Healthy Kansas initiative. Over this six year program, new gifts to endowed funds at GMCF will be matched up to the $600,000 award according to a two-tiered matching ratio. Some gifts will be matched at the rate of 1-to-2, or $1 match for every $2 of new gifts and some gifts will be matched at the rate of 1-to-4, or $1 of match for every $4 of new gifts. All gifts of any size are welcome.

What is GROW II?

GROW II is the second chapter of the Kansas Health Foundation's Giving Resources to our World (GROW) Healthy Kansas initiative. The mission of the Kansas Health Foundation is to improve the health of all Kansans. Through GROW II they hope to achieve the following four objectives:
  • To help more Kansas community foundations build endowed funds that are used to underwrite solutions to local health issues.
  • To help more Kansas community foundations reduce costs, improve service quality and become self-sustaining through collaboration and alliances
  • To help more Kansas community foundations acquire the capacity to provide leadership on health issues in their communities
  • To help more Kansas community foundations become ready and able to collaborate with the Kansas Health Foundation on health initiatives.
The Kansas Health Foundation is a private philanthropy dedicated to improving the health of all Kansans. For more information about the Kansas Health Foundation, visit www.kansashealth.org

Matching Rates

What are the matching rates?

New endowed gifts are matched using a two-tiered matching ratio of either a 1-to-2 match or a 1-to-4 match.

1-to-2 match rate - paid for gifts to the following three types of endowed funds: operations (or administrative) fund, unrestricted grant-making fund, or general public health field-of-interest fund

1-to-4 match rate - paid for all other new gifts to permanently endowed funds, with the exception of scholarship funds, which are not matched unless the fund is established as a designated fund at the community foundation for scholarship programs at one or more educational institutions.

Funds that Qualify for Matching under GROW II

If I donate to GMCF, gifts to which funds will be matched under GROW II?

Current list of funds that qualify for a 1-to-2 match:
Fund for Greater Manhattan - Endowed (Unrestricted grant making fund)
GMCF Trustees Endowed Fund (Unrestricted grant making fund)
GMCF Operations Endowment Fund (Operations fund)
GMCF Public Health Endowment Fund (general field-of-interest public health fund)
Jean Caul Fund for the Community
Florence Day Fund
John and Mary Lee Graham Fund
C. Clyde Jones and Margaret S. Jones Fund

Donors who wish to make a contribution of $10,000 or more have the option to establish a new named fund under one of the three types of endowed funds that qualify for the 1-to-2 matching grant.

Funds that qualify for a 1-to-4 match
Gifts to all other endowed funds, with the exception of scholarship funds, are eligible for the 1-to-4 match. For a complete list of endowed funds that qualify for a GROW II match, please click here.

Types of Gifts Matched
GROW II matches gifts of cash, securities, other liquid assets and irrevocable planned gifts. Gifts of real estate and other non-liquid assets must be sold by GMCF according to its gift acceptance policy, and the GROW II match is based on the sale price of the gifted asset. Pledges are not matched.

How will matching funds received be used?
The matching funds paid to GMCF are for the benefit of the operations (or administrative) endowment and the public health endowment. All matching money paid by the Kansas Health Foundation under GROW II will be paid into an operations endowment fund and a public health fund (to be called the Kansas Health Foundation Fund) at our foundation. These matching payments will be split evenly (50 percent / 50 percent) between the two funds.
