Youth Impacting Community

The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation youth advisory board, Youth Impacting Community (YIC), currently has 13 members. This year they have been busy with volunteer projects!

· On January 19, 2009 - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - members met to write letters to Ft. Riley military personnel serving in Iraq through the "Any Soldier" program. Letters went specifically to soldiers who don't receive mail from home.

· On President's Day - Feb. 16th - the youth gathered at the United Way of Riley County to spruce up the office by giving the walls a fresh coat of paint! They had fun working together and the United Way appreciated the help.

On Saturday, May 9, 2009, about 40 area youth gathered for the third annual Manhattan Youth Service Day - "Revitalize the Trails." Youth Impacting Community organizes this event and they recruit area teens to volunteer. This year volunteers worked at Little Warner Park spreading rock to build a parking lot and improve Military Trail. There was also a group working at Triangle Park in Aggieville. These volunteers rebuilt 13 park benches!
