Simply Quilting Club
Northview Elementary has an after school program every Monday and Thursday throughout the school year. Several hands-on learning opportunities are offered, one of which is the Simply Quilting Club. This club was fully funded by a grant from the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation. With the grant money, Sue Mountford, coordinator for the club, was able to purchase six machines and all of the other needed equipment.
During the 2008/09 school year twenty-five students benefited from the grant. The students completed several projects, one of which was a quilt to donate to the Manhattan Emergency Shelter. Simply Quilting Club will be offered again in the upcoming school year, with the addition of a more advanced class for the experienced students.
