AAUW Scholarship

The Manhattan Branch of the American Association of University Women was organized in 1920 as the fifth Kansas Branch of the Association of Collegiate Alumnae shortly before the national association changed its name to the American Association of University Women. When the Manhattan Branch was formed, it made a financial commitment to develop scholarship funds for women at Kansas State University. By the early 1920's they had raised enough money to start awarding scholarships and loans to KSU female students in their Junior or Senior year. Eventually, a Graduate Student Scholarship was also developed. Over the years, the funds have grown and the criteria has changed, making the scholarships what they are today. In 2012, members of the Manhattan AAUW Branch established the American Association of University Women Manhattan Branch KSU Scholarship Fund at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation (“GMCF”). Through this endowed fund, Manhattan AAUW Branch members have ensured permanent scholarship support for female, non-traditional students working toward a degree from Kansas State University. GMCF welcomes women attending Kansas State University for the 2026-2027 academic year to apply for these scholarships by submitting a completed application, transcripts, and three letters of reference postmarked or emailed no later than April 24, 2026, as instructed within. The Branch is excited to have the ability to award up to four incentive grants. Each incentive grant will be for a minimum of $1,500.

Candidates must be considered full-time according to K-State standards and have at least two complete semesters of credit remaining before graduation to qualify. Students taking courses solely through distance education are not eligible. Candidates must be returning to school after at least a three (3) year lapse in education, which may be continuous or not. Applicants may already have returned to college after the time lapse.

Bonnie Verbrugge Memorial Scholarship

Bonnie Verbrugge was Office Manager at Manhattan Country Club for more than 25 years. Because the club employs so many college students as servers, pool staff, and golf course staff, she often became a mother figure to them. Bonnie loved working among the students, other employees, and members of the Manhattan Country Club. People who knew her said she was one of the nicest, most upbeat people they had ever known. Even while going through cancer treatments, she continued to work, and faced each day with an amazingly positive attitude. When she passed on, management, members, and the board of directors established a memorial scholarship in her name at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation to recognize outstanding student employees. 

The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation will offer one approximately $500 scholarship for the 2025-2026 academic year. This scholarship is available to current employees of the Manhattan Country Club as defined below. 

Bonnie Verbrugge Memorial Scholarship Qualification Requirements: 

• Current employee of the Manhattan Country Club
• Attending any accredited two or four-year college or university
• Degree seeking student and currently have and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher 
• Priority given to students seeking degrees in hotel and restaurant management or golf course management

Carol E. Kellett Education Fund for Medical Service Providers

The Carol E. Kellett Education Fund for Medical Service providers was established at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation by Carol Kellett. Carol benefitted from the dedicated Home Health providers that helped her as she lived with dementia. Her life's work was in education, she served as a mentor to many, always looking for a way to provide opportunities to develop others.

Carol was inspired by the relationships that she developed with Meadowlark Home Health providers who assisted her so that she could sustain an independent lifestyle. She recognized potential that she wanted to encourage by providing opportunity for educational growth.

It is Carol's desire to provide scholarship opportunity for indviduals who are committeed to medical assistance and seeking degrees, certification, or continuing education in health-related fields.

Eligible Applicants:

• Current employees that are attending or plan to attend any accredited technical, two-year or four-year college or university OR plan on expanding their education through additional coursework, seminars or certification.
• Completion of the applications on file with the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation, including a brief handwritten essay on the subject of their plans for pursuing a career in some medical service related field.

Scholarship Requirements:

• Applicant must be currently employed by a medical service organization.
• Priority will be given to employees of Meadowlark Home Health and have been employed by the organization for a minimum of six months.

All other criteria being equal, in making scholarship awards, the schoalrship committee gives consideration to career goals consistent with an interest in pursuing certification or a degree related to a future career in the field of medical care for the senior population.

Flint Hills Builders Association Trade Scholarship

Flint Hills Builders Association awards scholarships to students in our community who are pursuing a career in the construction industry. The application is open to any student from the Flint Hills Region who will be attending a post-secondary institution (such as a college or trade school) during the upcoming academic year.  Verification of enrollment will be made with these local schools in every case. This scholarship(s) will be paid out in the spring 2027 semester.  This will include Flint Hills Region High Schools within 75 miles of Manhattan, KS.

Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice Employee Education Scholarship

The Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice Employee Education Fund was established at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation in 2014 in loving memory of Rhoda G. Culbertson, beloved wife of Ken and mother to Tige, Teren and Teall. Rhoda died at sunrise on June 3, 2014 at The Good Shepherd Hospice House. June 3rd marked the end of Rhoda's nine-year battle with metastatic ovarian cancer. Anyone who knew Rhoda would tell you of the grace and dignity with which she battled, survived and even enjoyed life during those nine years.

While Rhoda was an inspiring person, she and her family experienced an environment at The Good Shepherd Hospice House that enabled them all to experience her final days with peace and comfort. It was that experience that led to the creation of this education fund.

Two scholarships of approximately $1,500 will be awarded.

Eligible Applicants:

• Current employees that are attending or plan to attend any accredited technical, two year or four year college or university OR plan on expanding their education through additional coursework, seminars or certification.

Scholarship Requirements:

• Applicant must be currently employed by Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice and have been employed by the organization for a minimum of six months.

Gordon Morrison Scholarship

The Gordon Morrison Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 for the purpose of awarding a scholarship to one or more college bound senior students enrolled in vocational-agricultural classes and active in the Future Farmers of America (FFA) Club at Council Grove High School, Council Grove, Kansas.

A scholarship of approximately $1,000 is available for the upcoming academic year.

Criteria:

• Graduating senior of Council Grove High School and an active member of FFA

Iota of Alpha Kappa Lambda Scholarship

Alpha Kappa Lambda was founded on April 22, 1914, by a group of young men attending the University of California, Berkeley. The mission of Alpha Kappa Lambda is to develop brothers who, guided by the Five Ideals, share a lifelong commitment to AKL and are dedicated to assuming leadership roles in meeting the challenges of life. 

The Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Lambda was formed on May 24, 1930, when a local fraternity at Kansas State College, Delta Nu Omega, joined the Alpha Kappa Lambda National Fraternity.  From that point forward, Iota embraced Alpha Kappa Lambda’s ideals vigorously.  The chapter put its Christian Principles (later expanded to Judeo Christian Principles) to the forefront of everything it did.  The chapter house served as a real home away from home for its members.  Members’ impact on campus, locally and nationally, can be felt even today.  Members served in the public space in the armed services during every war since the chapter’s formation, as business leaders, faculty at multiple institutions of higher education (including KSU), law and in politics, just to name a few.  Within the organization, members have served as the National Fraternity’s President, Executive Director and AKL Education Foundation President.  Iota has left a lasting legacy of many fronts, which this scholarship is a part of. 

This will be a $2,000 per year scholarship, renewable for four-years, based on maintaining a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 GPA scale.

Candidate Qualifications:

• Full time (minimum 12 credit hours) undergraduate student at the Kansas State University Manhattan campus
• No misdemeanor or felony convictions
• Shows evidence of meeting the 5 Ideals of Alpha Kappa Lambda: Judeo-Christian principles, leadership, scholarship, loyalty, self-support
• Applicants should be descendants of an initiated AKL, with preference given to descendants of K-State graduates.

Kokoruda Farms Scholarship

The Kokoruda Farms scholarship is available to any student enrolled in a trade degree program or a medical degree program (nursing, radiology tech, etc.).  Applicants must be graduating in the current school year, a high school graduate, a student currently attending a postsecondary school or an individual going back to school to further their education after taking a break.  The scholarship can be renewable for up to three years, though a new application will need to be summited each year for the board's approval.  The scholarship will be paid out in the following semester upon receipt of satisfactory grades from the previous Fall semester and proof of enrollment for the current Spring semester.  $1,000 will be awarded to six eligible individuals.

League of Women Voters of Manhattan-Riley County - Stella Harriss Scholarship Fund

The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Manhattan-Riley County Stella Harriss Scholarship Fund was established at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation to award scholarships to non-traditional students who desire to further their education at Kansas State University. The LWV, a nonpartisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League does not support or oppose any political party or candidate for elective office. The LWV of the United States was organized in 1920, the year women won the right to vote. The Manhattan/Riley County League began in 1942 and is one of about 1100 local Leagues in the United States. Read more about the League of Women Voters on their website at www.lwvmrc.org. 

The League of Women Voters of Riley County Stella Harriss Scholarship Fund offers one (1) approximately $1,000 scholarship each fall semester. 

Stella Harriss Scholarship Eligibility Criteria: 

The recipient: Is or will be a non-traditional student who desires to complete a degree program at Kansas State University. A non-traditional student is generally defined as one of the following: 25 years of age or older, married, a parent, a Veteran, or returning to school after an absence of three or more years. 

• Must have earned a grade point average of at least 2.4/4.0 for 30 or more college credits
• Preference will be given to a full-time undergraduate student (12 hours or more). 
• Has demonstrated a keen interest in public service and is committed to the principles of the League of Women Voters as stated on the League website
• Demonstrates financial need.  The Student Financial Assistance Office will evaluate a student's level of need. It is necessary to complete and submit a Free Application for the Federal Student Aid available in that office and to qualify for aid. 
• Must be a U.S. citizen

Manhattan Area Music Teachers Association Scholarship

This annual scholarship is available to any high school senior enrolling at an approved and accredited junior college, college, or university with a declared major in the field of music. 

Eligibility: 

• The applicant must be currently studying with a MAMTA member 
• Race, color, creed, or gender will not be a factor in determining eligibility for this scholarship. 
• The applicant must have a distinguished background in the field of music. 
• The applicant must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. 
• Only high school seniors will be considered.

Manhattan Cross Country Club Scholarship in honor of Marvin Hachmeister

This scholarship honors the positive spirit and Commitment of one of the Flint Hills region's most adored runners, Marvin Hachmeister of Manhattan. Applicants who display these same attributes are encouraged to apply for one of several scholarships to be awarded, valued at $500.

Successful applicants must show evidence of at least average academic achievement, financial need, extracurricular school activities, community and School Service, and character refercences.

Eligibility

• Must be a high school senior in good standing, or home-schooled student, in Riley, Geary or Pottawatomie counties.
• Must carry a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Must have committeed or planning to compete in cross country and/or track and field at a college or university.
• Must have participated a minimum of three (3) seasons in high school (which may include planned participation in spring of senior year), and be a member in good standing of your cross countyr or track and field team.
• Must show evidence of service to the local community and/or your school

Manhattan Ogden Public Schools Foundation Scholarship - Nick Conley Memorial Scholarship

The Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools Foundation was founded in 1989 to receive and administer monetary gifts that will enhance education in USD 383. The Foundation provides an avenue for citizens, businesses and organizations to contribute financially to the school district whenever they have an interest in doing so.

The Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools Foundation is committed to promoting and supporting opportunities within our district to enhance and enrich the school experience for all children and educators in Manhattan-Ogden USD 383.  Part of this commitment is to offer multiple scholarship opportunities for Manhattan High School seniors.

Applicant must be a current MHS senior who will attend Manhattan Area Technical College.  Scholarship payment will be made directly to MATC.

If you are selected for this scholarship, you will be notified by mail in April.

Manhattan Ogden Public Schools Foundation Scholarships

The Manhattan-Ogden Public Schools Foundation was founded in 1989 to receive and administer monetary gifts that will enhance education in USD 383. The Foundation provides an avenue for citizens, businesses and organizations to contribute financially to the school district whenever they have an interest in doing so.

Opal J. Trumpp Music For Life Scholarship

The Opal J. Trumpp Music For Life Scholarship honors Opal's passion for music and her volunteer efforts in the community to bring music to kids.  Her love of music brought much joy to the world. 

The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation will offer one approximately $250 scholarship for the current academic year.

Opal J. Trumpp Music For Life Scholarship Qualification Requirements: 

• Graduating student of Riley County High School
• Active participant in the music program
• Continued involvement in music in some way post high school
• Must have a love of music and see how it enriches your life and the lives of others

Riley County Medical Society Scholarship Fund

The Greater Manhattan Community Foundation is pleased to administer the Riley County Medical Society Scholarship Fund, established at the Foundation in 2015. 

$3,000 in scholarships will be awarded to up to five applicants for the 2026 fall semester. 

Riley County Medical Society Scholarship Criteria: 

• Potential candidates must have ties to the Riley County community;
• Students must be enrolled in an accredited medical program (MD/DO);

Scholarship Award - Applications will be reviewed by the Riley County Medical Society Scholarship Fund Selection Committee. The screening process will be accomplished by both a paper application and personal interview with the scholarship committee. Scholarship disbursement will be made following the successful completion of the academic year.

Riley County Police Department Scholarship Fund

The successful recipient will receive an initial $1,000.00 scholarship from the Riley County Police Department Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will be renewable each fall for an additional three years so long as the recipient submits their most recent transcript reflecting a GPA of 3.0 or higher and proof of enrollment for the fall semester.

RCPD Scholarship Eligibility Criteria: 

• Must be the dependent son or daughter of a qualifying retiree, active or deceased full-time Riley County Police Department employee
• Must have a high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Must be accepted or currently enrolled as a full-time student at the undergraduate or graduate level taking at least twelve hours of college credit upon enrollment
• The recipient must attend an accredited two or four year college or university

Roger Alan Parrish Scholarship Fund

The Roger Alan Parrish Scholarship Fund was established at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation by the Parrish family in 2012. Roger loved outdoor activities including hiking and camping. While attending Manhattan High School, he participated in wrestling, cross country, and track. This scholarship is a memorial to Roger, who was killed while serving in the army during the Vietnam War. 

Two (2) approximately $1,000 scholarships are available each academic year.  The goal is for $1,000 to go to a male and $1,000 to go to a female.

Roger Alan Parrish Scholarship Criteria: 

• Applicants must be seniors in good standing at Manhattan High School (MHS)
• Applicants must be eligible to attend an accredited 2 or 4-year post-secondary school at the end of the current academic year
• Applicants must participate or have participated in one of the following sports while in high school: Wrestling, Cross Country, or Track 
• Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
• Applicants must provide a letter of recommendation from a current or former teacher at MHS

Spirit of ’72 Scholarship in partnership with the Manhattan Ogden Public Schools Foundation

These annual scholarships were established by the Manhattan High School Class of 1972 to give back to the school that provided our educational foundation. We are supporting both college-bound students who are active in their community and students who are pursuing higher education outside the college track. Each scholarship is $1,500; in case no applicant qualifies for one of the two categories, the two scholarships will be awarded to qualifying applicants in a single category.

• Earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

Non-College track eligibility requirements:

• Intend to use funds to attend a professional, vocational, or technical school.
• Include a one-page statement expressing why their ambitions and experiences have led them to pursue this choice of study.
• Include a letter of recommendation from an adult in an oversight role (coach, teacher, employer, pastor, etc.), indicating character, work ethic, and expectation for success.
• Earned a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.

SPS Companies Scholarship Application

The SPS Companies Scholarship is available only to students whose parents are employed by SPS Companies.  You must provide your parent's name as part of the scholarship application.  This will be confirmed by SPS before scholarships are awarded.  ***You must re-apply every year to be considered for this scholarship *** Application is open December 1st, 2025 - February 28, 2026.

Applicants should be attending a school where they will graduate with an associate degree or higher.  

Your application will be flagged as pending until the independent scholarship committee makes their selections by April 1, 2026.

If you are selected as a recipient, you will be asked to sumbit each semester's enrollment and grades from the prior semester. Below are the dates the portal is open to turn in your information. NO check will be processed until your cumulative GPA is provided.

The Greg Davis and Leigh Poston Memorial Scholarship

The Greg Davis and Leigh Poston Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation in 2004 by friends and family of Greg and Leigh. 

Up to $2,000 in scholarships will be awarded.

Criteria: 

• Applicant must have attended a Kansas high school
• Applicant must be enrolled in a building trades program (welding, construction trades/technology, construction science/management, engineering, etc.) at a two or four-year school

Scholarship Award - Applications will be reviewed by the Greg Davis and Leigh Poston Memorial Scholarship Fund Selection Committee and students will be notified by mail of the outcome of their application.
