Howe Family Foundation 
In 2013, the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation welcomed its second supporting organization, the Howe Family Foundation, established through the generous contribution of Phil and Margaret Howe. Guided by appreciation and gratitude for the Manhattan community, the Foundation supports qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and programs that strengthen safety, opportunity, and quality of life in the Manhattan area. Grants are accepted and awarded on a quarterly basis.
The Howe Family Foundation gives priority to proposals that:
- Improve the lives of children and families
- Develop workforce skills and quality employment opportunities
- Support systems that provide community disaster relief
- Enhance and expand formal education systems
- Advance unique and impactful community improvement projects
Note: The Foundation generally does not support church operating budgets.
Grant proposals may be evaluated based on:
- The extent to which the project meets critical community needs
- Alignment between the organization’s mission and HFF priorities
- Clear definition of the program or project being funded
- Financial documentation, including prior-year operating statements, balance sheets, and project budgets
- The degree to which HFF funding contributes meaningfully to project success
- Demonstrated community involvement and leadership
- A track record of achieving organizational goals
- A strategic plan guiding future mission success
- Identified sources of current and future funding
