Donor-Advised Funds: A Valuable Conversation for Your Community

Posted Tuesday August 11, 2026

Financial advisors, accountants, and estate planning attorneys are often the first people community members turn to when making important financial decisions, including charitable ones.

One topic that comes up more frequently than ever is the donor-advised fund.

Many donors are looking for a convenient way to organize their charitable giving while supporting multiple nonprofits over time. A donor-advised fund allows them to contribute to a charitable fund, receive any available tax benefits at the time of the gift, and recommend grants to the organizations and causes they care about when the time is right.

As an affiliate community foundation, you don't need to be the tax expert. Your role is to be the local philanthropic expert.

Building relationships with financial advisors, CPAs, and estate planning attorneys helps ensure they know your foundation is available when charitable conversations arise. Together with the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation, you can provide donors with local expertise, charitable giving options, and long-term stewardship that keeps generosity working in your community.

The strongest partnerships begin before a donor needs them. A simple introduction today can lead to meaningful charitable conversations for years to come.
