Girls On The Run - 2024

Posted Tuesday July 8, 2025

Girls on the Run of the Flint Hills received a $9,000 grant through the YES! Fund to support their Financial Assistance Initiative, ensuring that every girl, regardless of economic background, has equitable access to the program's transformative social-emotional learning and physical activity opportunities.

Over the past year, 104 girls participated in the program, with 82 receiving financial assistance, an extraordinary 79% of all participants. Thanks to this support, every girl who received assistance could complete the end-of-season 5K, the organization's largest event.

The YES! Fund grant helped cover essential costs, including program registration fees, appropriate footwear and apparel, and running buddy registration expenses. Additionally, coaches completed specialized trauma-focused and equity training to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all participants.

One parent shared, "My daughter has struggled with anxiety and Girls On The Run provided her a safe place to be herself and have no worries. The positivity had a big impact on her both in and out of school."

Beyond alleviating financial barriers, the grant's impact extended to fostering a strong sense of community, confidence, and empowerment among young girls throughout the Flint Hills area.
