Special Olympics Kansas is dedicated to empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to become physically fit, productive, and respected members of society through sports competitions, health and nutrition programs, and leadership development. They received a grant through the Grants for Greater Manhattan for $1,000 to host the North Central Regional Volleyball Competition and Healthy Athletes Screening in October 2024. Athletes participating in the Special Olympics competed in volleyball games and skills competitions. Volunteers from the surrounding Riley County area helped at the event and practiced inclusion through their support of individuals with intellectual disabilities. The goal of Special Olympics Kansas is to give people with intellectual disabilities the opportunities to develop physical fitness and courage, and experience joy and friendship.
