Looking for a Simpler Way to Give?

Posted Tuesday August 11, 2026

Many people think charitable giving means writing a check whenever they want to support a cause. While that's one option, many donors are discovering ways to make their giving more intentional.

One increasingly popular option is a donor-advised fund (DAF).

A donor-advised fund allows you to make a charitable contribution, receive any available tax benefits at the time of your gift, and then recommend grants to your favorite nonprofits over time. It can be a simple way to organize your giving while creating flexibility for the future.

Donor-advised funds can also work well alongside gifts of appreciated stock, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs), gifts of grain, or estate plans. Rather than trying to navigate these options alone, consider including charitable giving in the conversations you're already having with your financial advisor, accountant, attorney, and your community foundation.

At the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation, we work with you and your trusted advisors to explore charitable giving solutions that fit your goals and reflect the impact you want to make.

Whether you're just beginning your philanthropic journey or thinking about the legacy you'd like to leave, we're here to help connect your generosity with the causes that matter to you most.
