Put Your IRA to Work for Your Community
As the year comes to a close, you may be thinking about the organizations, causes, and community needs that matter most to you. If you're age 70½ or older, your IRA may offer a meaningful way to put that generosity into action.
Through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD), an eligible gift made directly from your IRA can:
- Support the charitable work and community needs you care about
- Generally be excluded from your taxable income rather than treated as a taxable IRA distribution
- Count toward your Required Minimum Distribution, if applicable
For 2026, eligible individuals can make up to $111,000 in Qualified Charitable Distributions from an IRA.
Timing matters. To count for 2026, your gift must be completed by December 31. Because IRA custodians may have earlier processing deadlines, and some still issue paper checks, we encourage you to start the process well before year-end.
If you're considering an IRA gift, the GMCF team is here to help coordinate the charitable side of your gift and work alongside you and your professional advisor.
Your IRA helped you plan for your future. It can also help you invest in the future of a community or cause you care about.

Please consult your tax or financial advisor to determine whether a Qualified Charitable Distribution is appropriate for your individual circumstances.
