GivingTuesday: Every Act of Generosity Makes a Difference
Every day, people across our communities make a difference through acts of generosity. Whether it's volunteering time, supporting a local nonprofit, helping a neighbor, or making a charitable donation, these actions help strengthen the places we call home.
On December 1, 2026, people around the world will come together to celebrate GivingTuesday, a global movement that encourages generosity and inspires individuals, families, businesses, and organizations to give back.
At the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation (GMCF), we see the impact of generosity firsthand through the donors, nonprofits, and community partners who work together to create meaningful change.
The Power of Giving Back
GivingTuesday is an opportunity to reflect on the causes that matter most to us and consider how we can make a difference.
Across our region, nonprofit organizations are working every day to meet community needs, provide essential services, and create opportunities for individuals and families. From education and healthcare to food security, the arts and community development, these organizations play an important role in strengthening our communities.
Their work is made possible through the generosity of people who believe in their missions.
And while GivingTuesday is recognized on one day each year, the impact of giving extends far beyond December 1. A single gift can help provide immediate assistance, support an ongoing program or contribute to resources that benefit the community for years to come. Every Gift Matters
One of the most meaningful things about philanthropy is that everyone has something to contribute.
For some, that might mean making a financial gift to a favorite nonprofit. For others, it could mean volunteering, sharing an organization's mission with friends and family, or finding a new way to get involved in the community.
No matter the size of the contribution, each act of generosity plays a part in creating positive change.
GivingTuesday also offers an opportunity to discover organizations and causes you may not have supported before. Learning about the work happening in your community can open the door to new connections and meaningful ways to give back.
Make Your Giving Meaningful
If you're considering making a charitable gift this GivingTuesday, start by thinking about what matters most to you.
Is there a nonprofit that has made a difference in your life? A community need you feel passionate about addressing? A cause you would like to support for future generations?
At GMCF, our mission is to build relationships between donors and community needs. We help individuals, families and businesses explore charitable giving opportunities that reflect their values and goals.
Whether you're interested in supporting an existing charitable fund, establishing a donor-advised fund, or planning a lasting charitable legacy, our team is here to help you explore the possibilities.
Generosity Starts With You
As GivingTuesday comes and goes, we encourage you to take a moment to recognize the organizations, volunteers, donors, and community partners who make our communities stronger.
Consider making a gift to a nonprofit you care about, learning about a new organization, or inviting someone else to join you in giving back.
Every act of generosity helps build a stronger community, and every person has the opportunity to make a difference.
This GivingTuesday, give to what matters most to you.
