Grants for Greater Manhattan
Grants are focused on the arts and humanities, basic human needs, children/youth, community development and leadership, conservation/preservation/beautification, education, the elderly, health care, and mental health. Past projects include art education programs offered by Laundry Love MHK and scholarships for youth summer camp fees.
Funding for Grants for Greater Manhattan comes from a variety of funds, including Fund for Manhattan, Kansas Health Foundation Children's Fund, Don Dodge Fund, Frances Van Scoyoc Fund, Florence Day Fund, Fund for Manhattan-Permanent, Jean Caul Fund, C. Clyde and Margaret S. Jones Fund, Manhattan Community Memorial Fund, Lois Blackman Fund, and Instruments for Youth Fund.

Together, these grants strengthen Manhattan’s social fabric, ensuring that families, children, and individuals of all backgrounds have access to the resources and experiences that help them thrive.
Boys & Girls Club Manhattan $10,000.00
Summer Programs: Scholarships and field trip expenses allowing all youth to participate in educational/recreational opportunities, regardless of income.
Crisis Center $10,000.00
Riley County Police Response Advocate Program: A project between RCPD and Crisis Center that assures victims of DV have access to services at the moment of law enforcement intervention.
First Tee – Manhattan $10,000.00
Manhattan Programs: Scholarships for golf program participation.
Flint Hills Breadbasket $10,000.00
Dairy Dollars: Funds are set aside for purchasing milk for families.
Flint Hills EAA Chapter 1364 $10,000.00
Youth Aviation Aircraft Build Project: Encourages youth to explore aviation by building a working airplane and using a flight simulator to learn takeoff, flight, and landing.
Friends of the Konza Prairie $3,000.00
Konza Summer Teachers’ Workshop: Flint Hills educators visit the Konza for a week to explore educational activities offered through the Konza Environmental Education Program.
Good Shepherd Homecare & Hospice $10,000.00
Charitable Care: Subsidizes care provided to seniors, specifically those receiving assistance through the Older Americans Act, Senior Care Act, and Caregiver Grants.
Kansas Science Festival $5,000.00
Kansas Science Festival: The annual festival unites research scientists, educators, and STEAM practitioners statewide to deliver interactive experiences for all ages.
Habitat for Humanity $10,000.00
Hope ReStored Program: Provides $100 Restore gift cards to area direct service nonprofits that serve low-income households.
Kids Bike Recycling/Bike Swap $6,000.00
Kids Bike Recycling and Bike Swap Events: Donated bikes are refurbished by volunteers and exchanged, allowing children to trade for larger or improved bicycles.
Kansas Youth Empowerment Academy $2,500.00
EmpowerMe Program: A work development initiative designed to equip youth with disabilities with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to transition into meaningful employment and community engagement.
Laundry Love MHK $5,000.00
Monthly Events: Assistance to families experiencing a burdensome financial impact when doing laundry each month allowing the reallocation of laundry-specific funds to greater needs.
Manhattan Arts Center $8,520.00
Clay Creations Collective-From Earth to Art: Fosters a supportive and inspiring community for ceramic artists, potters, and clay enthusiasts in the Manhattan region.
Manhattan Emergency Shelter, Inc. $10,000.00
Severe Service Needs Program: Directly focus on the gap identified in the KHRC HOMEARP Allocation Plan for increased service investments in mental health, behavioral health, and medical support services.
Manhattan Symphony Orchestra $5,450.00
Celebrating All Voices: In recognition of Juneteenth National Independence Day, the Manhattan Symphony Orchestral presented a concert of spectacular music by black composers including works by Florence Price, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, William Grant Still, and many more.
Manhattan Aeronautics and Space Administration (MASA) Club at MHS $800.00
American Rocketry Competition: MASA Club members design, build, and test a working model rocket to compete in the American Rocketry Challenge, the largest rocket contest with nearly 5,000 students nationwide competing each year.
Pawnee Mental Health Services, Inc. $10,000.00
Advancing Mental Health Care: Aims to enhance mental health services for children, adults, and families by providing key resources and training.
Riley County Health Department $5,500.00
Community Baby Shower: Expectant families and those with infants can connect with partners, learn safe sleep practices, and receive a bundle to reduce sleep-related deaths in Riley County.
Shepherd’s Crossing $10,000.00
Prescription and Medical Equipment Program: Enables Shepherd's Crossing to provide necessary and lifesaving prescriptions and medical equipment to clients in the Manhattan community.
Sole Reason Foundation $9,250.00
Manhattan Project: Purchases new shoes from local vendors at a reduced cost and distributes them to qualifying children in need. The goal is to provide at least 200 new pairs of shoes to children in the USD383 school district this year.
Special Olympics Kansas $5,000.00
State Basketball & Cheerleading Competition: Special Olympics athletes from all around the state come to Manhattan to compete in a competitive tournament, skills practice, cheerleading competition, and health and wellness programming.
Sunflower Children’s Collective $10,000.00
CASA Advocate Support: Provides trained volunteer advocates for children who have experienced abuse and neglect, ensuring consistent, quality advocacy for our most vulnerable children.
The House Café, Inc. $10,000.00
The Way Early Learning Center: The goal is to come alongside the families to help them by providing childcare where all fees are income-based, providing affordable childcare to all families regardless of income. In addition to affordable pricing, families can receive further discounts based on attendance at our parenting classes and 10 volunteer hours a quarter.
Thrive! Flint Hills Foundation $7,500.00
Breaking the Cycle of Poverty for Youth: The youth program works with ages 5-18, focusing on quality programming, building resilience, and character, providing the skills they need to break the cycle of poverty.
UFM Community Learning Center $6,000.00
Project Excell: This program provides personal enrichment and life skill classes to adults 18 years and older with developmental disabilities.
