Zeandale Mural
The west wall of Zeandale's local fire station is set to become a striking canvas, bringing the town's history to life. This mural will be visible to anyone passing through on Highway 18. What's so unique about it is that it isn't just a piece of art; it's a tribute to Zeandale's storied past, capturing everything from its Native American roots to the arrival of settlers in the 1800s.
The idea began with Diane Hoobler, a dedicated resident and representative of the Friends of the Zeandale Fire Station 101. She presented a draft of the mural to the Riley County officials, who approved it. The mural will feature vibrant depictions of key local landmarks: the train station, the Pawnee Trail, and the old Zeandale schoolhouse. Some elements, like the train station, will be enlarged for more significant visual impact, drawing the eye of anyone passing by.
As the mural takes shape, it will reflect the town's heritage and serve as a point of pride for the community. Once finished, residents will maintain the mural, ensuring that this vivid snapshot of Zeandale's history will endure for years. The mural will be more than just art—it will be a living piece of the community, forever echoing the town's past while inspiring future generations.
