The Friends of Tuttle Creek State Park host O.K. Kids Day to promote outdoor activities.

The Friends of Tuttle Creek State Park work in conjunction with the Kansas Wildscape Foundation, the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, & Tourism, AmeriCorps students and the local VFW chapter Post 1786 to host a day full of outdoor fun at Tuttle Creek State Park. O.K. Kids Day has been around for over ten years and is working to promote outdoor activities to people of all ages for little to no cost. The event usually runs from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm with a lunch included.  There are different activities for all types of people. Some of the main activities are practicing archery, shooting BB Guns, ax throwing, the Little Apple Amusement Train, a rock wall, and a casting clinic. These activities were able to show children how much there is to do outside. Other activities that took place during the day were maggot painting, an animal show with the opportunity to pet the animals from Reptile World and a bug show from the K-State Entomology Club. One of the biggest attractions at O.K. Kids Day this year was the Parks and Rec Department with their Private Watercraft Simulator. Children would sit on a jet ski with a screen in front of them and show them what it was like to be on the watercraft team.

Throughout the day there were prizes given out to attendees of O.K. Kids Day. The prizes included a free apple certificate and various gift cards. There was also a grand prize raffle for a lifetime fishing license. At the end of the day all children received a tote bag full of prizes, including a hat, sunglasses, a pencil and stickers.

Next year the Friends of Tuttle Creek State Park are hoping to grow O.K. Kids Day. In 2016 there were about 600 attendees, and the children that attended were mostly elementary aged children.  In 2017 the state meteorologist will be attending O.K. Kids Day and the Friends of Tuttle Creek State Park would love to see even more people in attendance.
